The end use of Perm-A-Barrier VP is an air barrier to limit uncontrolled air leakage into and out of a building. According to a National Institute of Standards and Technology study (NISTIR 7238 Investigation of the Impact of Commercial Building Envelope Airtightness on HVAC Energy Use), buildings utilizing an air barrier can reduce enegy costs by up to 39%. The reduced energy cost and energy usage by using Perm-A-Barrier VP on a building improves the environmental performance of the building.
